Artist's Statement
My first interest in photography began with the study of how it came to be. What intrigued me most was the ability of a photograph to create beauty, truth and drama out of the ordinary. I refer to the basic, simple facets of everyday life we either pay no attention to or simply take for granted. My photographs strive to monumentalize what I observe - not merely record a reflection of what I see, but also add importance and appreciation to its interpretation. BioHolly Foss is a native of Washington, DC, having grown up in Chevy Chase, MD. She earned her BA in history and art history at Wellesley College where she also took classes in photography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has received grants from DCAC / NEA. Her photographs were recognized as a Best Bet in “Around Town” on WETA (PBS) and have been featured on Fox Sunday Morning News. Her shows have also been written up in The City Paper and The Georgetowner newspapers. You will find her work in private collections, the DC Public Library Georgetown and the City Hall Art Collection. |
